Asia Production 250cc (AP250) fans can look forward to an even more nail-biting title chase this season as the Equalizer Rule is extended to the top six riders in the standings.
The new rule, which was implemented in 2019, had been successful in keeping the championship wide open by adding yet another level of tactics into the teams’ strategy.
The extension of the Equalizer Rule to the top six will mean that every time one of the top five riders acquire a 25-point lead over the other competitors in the top six, the first equalizer, a 500rpm reduction to the rev limit, will be applied. A second equalizer will come into play once a 50-points lead had been achieved, followed by a third equalizer if required.
As the teams confirm their entries for the 2020 season, the 22-rider AP250 grid has become one of the most diverse categories in the Asia Road Racing Championship with entries from Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand.
