It was a victorious moment for Watcharin Tubtimon from Thailand when he bagged the winning glory in Race 1 of Round 4, FIM Asia Road Racing Championship in the TVS Asia One-Make Championship category held at Sepang International Circuit.
Earlier in the morning, the qualifying session for the race category brought the best out of Singaporean lad, Arsyad Rusydi when he made the fastest at 2’32:231s. At the second fastest spot, it was Agung Septian from Indonesia who clocked in his best at 2’32:563s. His countryman, Decky Tiarno Aldy came in the third fastest at 2’33:268s.
As soon as the race flagged off in Race 1, Decky found his way up from the third spot on the grid to P1 and while he stayed consistent and grounded in the position for the first four laps, he was seen being chased ferociously by Agung and Vorapong. By the fifth lap, Agung made his move and took lead leaving Decky in a heated battle with Vorapong.
Meanwhile, Watcharin Tubtimon who had been on the hunt was waiting for his moment to strike. For five laps, he was stuck with no opportunities of breaking into the top three circle. However, towards the final lap and the last turn, Watcharin emerged among the top three riders, inches away from Vorapong who was then already at the lead position. Seconds towards the chequered flag,
Watcharin made his final dash and took the winning spot for the first time this season, clocking in at 14’59:983s.
Commenting on the race, Watcharin said, “In the first few laps, there was slight rain. But I went on to do my best. I planned to put on a good fight in the last corner and I managed to work it. Thank you, Thailand for the great support. I truly had a good time.”
Vorapong Malahuan of Thailand took the second spot on the podium, logging in at 15’00:008s.
At the third spot on the podium, Agung Septian from Indonesia marked his best at 15’00:336s.
