It was a triumph after a two-year hiatus for ASTRA HONDA Racing Team at the Race 1 of FIM Asia Road Racing Round 1 when Rheza Danica Ahrens took the first spot at the podium.

Rheza who took the fourth position at the Grid was pushed back, behind the top five riders in the first lap but managed to make his way back into the top three position in lap two.

Throughout the 10-lap race, Rheza managed his strategies well, striding in and out of the top 3 position before he fell one step behind in the seventh lap. However, in lap eight, Rheza upped his speed and emerged strong to take lead ahead of the troupe.

The nail-biting moment took place when Rheza battled with his biggest contenders Piyawat Patoomyos and Andy Muhammad Fadly at the final lap. The trio took speed at the final turn before Rheza glided first at 19:03:774s.

“It was a great feeling to have achieved the top spot at the podium in the season opener. While the weather has been challenging, it was even more challenging to keep my pace among the riders.”

“I picked up my speed at the last turn and that earned me an improved lap time today. I certainly look forward to performing better in Race 2.”

Piyawat of HONDA Racing Thailand who took the pole position came in to a close finish behind Rheza, logging in at 19:03:354s while Andy Muhammad Fadly of Motul Sniper Manual Tech Racing Team finished at 19:04;091.
