STILL LEARNING

Round 4 of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship is hitting the grounds of PERTAMINA Mandalika International Circuit. Fully prepped for the weekend to take up the challenge of TVS Asia One Make Championship is fellow countryman Decky Tiarno Aldy who is confident in his bargains for the top three spot. The Indonesian lad made his debut three years ago when the race category was incepted and ever since, he has showcased quite the dexterity in maintaining his composure at the top five positions. In the debut season, Decky claimed the third position overall but dropped to the fifth in the following year especially with a more competitive entry list. This season, while he has tackled the fourth spot overall, he is yet to complete the rounds with a podium-finish.  The TVS Apache RR310 machine has definitely seen tremendous improvements in terms of performance over the last three years and for some riders, the challenge comes with the ability to adapt as quickly as possible. But for Decky, he said, “The machine, to me is not very different from last season perhaps because I have been riding it for a long time now. There has definitely been changes in the machine to enhance the handling and performances however that does not affect my riding techniques.” He went on to say, “What is difficult would be the competition among the contenders. The battle is much fiery compared to the last season and it is not easy to keep up with the pace. Everyone wants a piece of the pie and to put on a good fight is tough. On top of that, I could not maximise my performance yet this season due to my injury. I have not fully recovered. Although I know that there is room for improvements, this season has nevertheless been a great season so far because I have picked up on new experiences compared to last season.” “The Mandalika circuit is not a very technical one. I like the character and layout of the circuit and I am pretty confident with my performances for the next round. Regardless, the preparation is still important. For now, I am working on my physique and mental strength. I jog everyday to build up my stamina. I want to finish podium on my home-ground for sure. I have not stepped my foot on the podium yet for the season so my wish is to raise my country, Indonesia’s flag on the podium this weekend.”

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SCORE!

The Round 4 of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will once again adorn the circuit layout of PERTAMINA Mandalika International Circuit this weekend. The riders of the Underbone 150cc race category are ready to rev up to the storm of challenge and among them are Md Akid Aziz of PitsBike OneWay JRT Tech2 Racing Team and Adytya Fauzi of RACETECH SIXTY Racing Team who will be upping their games for a taste at the top. He may have been defeated with a “DNF” status in race one of the season opener but Akid is quickly making up for the loss and striking it up the ladder towards excellence. With only 14 points away from the leader, the sweet flavour of success is getting closer for the Malaysian born rider. The only question is, “Would he be able to repeat another victorious note in the coming rounds?” The UB150 race category is known for its unpredictability and landing on the podium is not as easy as it may seem. Nevertheless, Akid has showcased tremendous improvements this season in terms of dexterity and consistency when he barged towards the chequered flag twice to place himself on the podium.  Commenting on the race, Akid said “Half a season has been pretty impressive as we had a chance to fight competitively with the closest contenders. That is a great improvement on our part. The UB150 race category is not an easy one because every rider has a chance to get lucky. However, most important is being prepared with the right setup. The suspension is a crucial part and in the beginning of the season, it was a problem for us. However, in Round 3, Race 2, we managed to optimise it and that has contributed to our success. For the coming round, we haven’t found the right setup yet. Although we have improved a little bit compared to the other rounds, we are still struggling to fight among the front troop. Therefore, we need to keep working on the machine and I have to keep pushing to do my best. For the next round, the aim is to find a better position during the race and fight for the championship title. The Mandalika circuit is quite interesting however, the last sector can be challenging. We can’t predict anything as yet but certainly there will be better advantage if the machine is in a better condition. My goal is to score the champion title this season and while I know it is hard, it is not impossible!” Adytya on the other hand faced some rough challenges of his own, one that of being a first-timer for a full-season and the other is the unforeseen circumstances that limits the performances. While Adytya may be new in the ARRC scene, he is definitely not new to the experience aboard the underbone machine. Adytya has garnered vast experience from other national championships and his participation on the Asian motorcycle racing championship is a matter of adapting and learning the behaviour of other riders. The Indonesian who has teamed up with a seasoned pro definitely has his advantages however the disadvantages that are inevitable is something that he has to tackle immediately if he aims to maintain his position at the top three spot.  Commenting on the race, Adytya said, “This season is my first, participating in a full-season and it has been quite different for me to be honest. Riding alongside highly robust riders has given me quite an insight as to how the race category functions. Each rider come with their own strengths and tackling that, to be better than them, it requires great focus and proper strategizing. I am quite lucky and glad to partner with Wahyu Aji who has been in the racing scene for a long time. He has heaps of experience and that has been extremely helpful especially in navigating through the rough and tough riders as well as learning the circuit grounds quickly. He has also taught me moves in overtaking, getting the best lap time in the qualifying session and making bold moves during the race. The team and mechanics have been working very hard to optimise the machine’s performances with the evaluation from each session up to the race so that we can obtain the best results. Racing in Mandalika has a big impact for me so, I will go all out for my country, the team and myself. I will never let my first year in ARRC go to waste. I will do my best and take this opportunity to learn and score as many points as possible.”

BIG DREAMS DRIVE SUCCESS

Striking in their appearance and bold with their moves, the riders of the SuperSports 600cc get better in each round as they pose a strike to be the epitome of excellence. Md Adenanta Putra of ASTRA HONDA RACING TEAM has come a long way this season and is all geared up for the challenge of Round 4, Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship taking place on his home soil at PERTAMINA Mandalika International Circuit scheduled for this weekend.  Adenanta graduated into the SS600 race category last season and like any other riders, the year went by swiftly with him patiently and confidently learning the ropes and grooming himself for the new season. It looks like he did a great job, adopting and adapting new techniques and riding style while managing a machine of a higher capacity. This year, he marched right into the duties and responsibilities of a team player and not only did he fulfil the key performance indicators but also excelled brilliantly with flying colours.  One would say it is the right pressure and persistence from the team itself but again, it is also the rider’s attributes and positive mindset that speak volumes of the achievements. Adenanta was seen making bold moves alongside the big guns of the race category and while he may not have taken a win just yet, he has over six races revealed an ability to maintain consistency, the much-needed credentials to make it big. He now sits at second spot on the podium and considering the upcoming race which is an easy target for the Indonesian, he may just be in for a lucky treat. Commenting on the race, Adenanta said, “This season has been a great year for me. I have improved quite well and I feel much better now, more confident with the strides. I also understand the machine and mechanism of the SuperSports especially in fighting and making my moves at the corners. This year, the team and I have been working really hard so that we would stand a chance for better results and keeping my fingers cross, a chance at the top three positions. Of course, the engine performance has also been established well and is able to fight competitively with the opponents. We are able to get a consistent lap time and that is quite an achievement for us.” “The aim is to maintain the momentum. Currently, I work on my physique to enhance my fitness level. Mental strength is also equally important as it goes hand-in-hand with the physical aspects. For the upcoming race in Mandalika, I am very excited. It is my home-ground for one and I enjoy riding on the circuit ground because of its high-speed corners. I will do my best as I have been trying throughout this season. There is no particular mantra that I practice but I think having the perseverance and the desire to succeed as an accomplished rider is one that keeps me going and pushing me beyond boundaries. My long-term goal is to be seen and to make an impact on the global front.”

ONLY THE BEST FOR THE COUNTRY

The Asia Production 250cc race category of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will once again colour the circuit ground of PERTAMINA Mandalika International Circuit this weekend for its Round 4. Ready to flex their muscles and flaunt their mastery are teammates Md Kiandra Ramadhipa and Herjun Atna Firdaus of ASTRA HONDA RACING TEAM who are equally charged up to make their country proud. It was a colourful start this season for Herjun who has been in the game for some time now and after making it to the podium five times, he fell short with a “DNF” in round three. His teammate, Kiandra who is a debutante in the race category as a full-season rider, ironically had a less accelerated momentum but with his double-win in Round 3, he rocketed to the top of the chart, toppling his teammate by four points. The question here is, “Who would excel on the Indonesian soil this time around?” Rewinding to last season, the crowd applauded as Herjun went on the fast and fury to conquer the circuit ground. He battled intensely to defeat his teammate with calculated and risky moves before celebrating not only a double-win but also a hat-trick. Ramadhipa on the other hand made his appearance as a wild-card rider but of course, it was rough play and despite the pressure from seasoned riders, he made 7th in Race 1 and jumped two notches up to 5th in Race 2. Evidently, it is tough to place the bets considering the pros and cons of the highly capable riders but one thing’s for sure is that Herjun has his fingers wrapped around the circuit while Ramadhipa is just around the corner, catching up very quickly. Commenting on the race, Herjun said, “The season with the new regulations makes the competition tough and it is not easy for me to be competitive especially with the RPM regulations. Due to the lower RPM, it requires us to use a smaller final ratio compared to last year. The weight of the riders is very important and in comparison to the other riders, I have a heavier body due to my tall body structure. I have also gained weight compared to last season. Besides that, the opponent’s machines especially the Yamaha R3 has a stronger torque when exiting the corners. That makes it challenging for me in catching up with them, more so with my heavier weight. I prepare myself as usual but after the crash in Motegi, it is more of being prepared mentally. The racing conditions are certainly very different for me this season but of course, I always give my best in each race. The goal remains the same though. I aim to be the best and I want to be the champion!” As for Ramadhipa, he said, “The fight in ARRC is tough but I am able to utilise the experience from last year as a wild card rider to make the most of this season. The motivation within me has definitely increased after my win in Motegi and I am more confident now in tackling the opponents, more so for the upcoming Mandalika races. For now, I am ignoring all the pressure so that I can stay focused on my home-ground circuit. My competitors and of course, our fellow Indonesian riders will be strong on the Mandalika ground but my job is to pay attention to my own riding techniques to ensure no mistakes are made. The preparations are as usual. Of course, along with the team, we do both physical and technical preparations to achieve the best results. For the coming round on my home circuit, there are not two ways about it. I want to win and for that to happen, it is 100% all the way.”

ANDI’S MISSION: BOUNCING BACK FROM SETBACK

Indonesian rider, Andi Farid Izdihar of Honda Asia-Dream Racing with Astemo faced a challenging and frustrating race weekend at the ASB1000 Round 3 IDEMITSU FIM Asia Road Racing Championship held at the Mobility Resort Motegi, Japan. Despite his excellent performance earlier in the season, Round 3 proved to be a significant setback for the talented rider. Andi’s season began on a high note with an excellent performance in Round 1, where he secured second place in Race 1 and claimed victory in Race 2. His momentum continued into Round 2, where he finished in second place in Race 1, before Race 2 was cancelled due to inclement weather. These strong performances kept Andi at the top of the overall standings heading into Round 3. However, the race at Motegi was anything but smooth for Andi. In Race 1, he experienced some issue as early as lap 2, forcing him out of the race and registering a DNF (Did Not Finish). In Race 2, despite a strong effort, he could only manage to finish in P6. These results caused him to drop to third place in the overall standings. “In Race 1, I made a mistake at the start and lost positions, so I pushed hard to regain them, but I lost front grip. In Race 2, I felt good at the beginning, but from the middle to the end of the race, I struggled to open the throttle because the bike was too aggressive. I tried to manage the power mode, but it was still not enough.” Andi expressed his disappointment “It was a difficult weekend for me in Motegi, and I want to forget this round and focus on the next race. We faced challenges that were out of our control, but I am confident that we can bounce back stronger.” When asked about dropping to third place in the overall standings, Andi acknowledged the difficulty but emphasized his determination to reclaim the top spot. “Tough weekend in Motegi, and it’s frustrating to see that we dropped to third in the standings, but I am confident we can collect more points in Mandalika. I can’t wait for Round 4,” he said. Andi’s focus now shifts to the next round at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia. As the only Indonesian rider in the ASB1000 category, Andi is eager to shine on home soil and aims for redemption. “Racing at home is a significant advantage. I want to give my best performance and hopefully reclaim the top spot,” he expressed with enthusiasm. Andi expressed his excitement about the challenges ahead. “The championship is becoming more interesting with each round, and I am excited about it. The competition is tough for sure, but I thrive on it,” He also acknowledged the strength of his rivals, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah of JDT RACING TEAM, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman of TKKR BMW Racing Team, including his teammates, Nakarin Atiratphuvapat and Md Zaqhwan Zaidi, and the importance of rigorous training. “I knew from the start that this year would be challenging in ASB1000. Everyone is strong, and I have been preparing for this from the beginning.” Moreover, Andi’s love for the Mandalika track further fuels his optimism. “I like the track because it has many fast corners that I enjoy, and my favorite parts are sectors 3 and 4. Racing at Mandalika is special for me, and I am confident that we can deliver a strong performance.” With the support of the home crowd and dedication, Andi is poised to make a remarkable comeback in the upcoming race.
