The nature of UB150 racing quickly came into play, with the leading pack forming tightly from the opening laps. By Lap 2, the front group had evolved into a multi-rider battle featuring Dimas, Husni, Muhammad Adib Arsyad Mohd Hisam of UMA RACING YAMAHA MAJU MOTOR TEAM, and Shahrol Syazras Shahrol Yuzy of YUZY ASIA TEAM, all exchanging positions in rapid succession. The intensity remained high on Lap 3, with Dimas, Gupita, Adib, and Husni continuing to swap the lead in a classic UB150 slipstream showdown. Lap 4 saw further drama as Fadli Rigani of YAMAHA LFN HP969 INDONESIA RACING TEAM went down but managed to rejoin, while Inguito returned to the front ahead of Husni and Nazirul Izzat Md Bahauddin of UMA RACING YAMAHA MAJU MOTOR TEAM. Moments later, Nazirul was forced to slow down and signal a technical issue, dropping out of contention and reshuffling the leading order once again. By Lap 5, the fight intensified with Adib, Syazras, Dimas, Husni, and Gupita locked in a relentless battle, all within striking distance as the race headed toward a dramatic conclusion. The final lap delivered absolute chaos. Crashes involving Dimas and Kiki Sudarman Manurung of JPNW SND FACTORY RACING shook up the front group, while M. As Syazras led into the final corner, victory seemed within reach, until Husni executed a perfectly timed move, diving through in the last turn. TIMOTHY, NEW FILIPINO HOPE?

YAMAHA PHILIPPINES RACETECH RACING TEAM’s rising talent, Timothy Jonathan KY Rojas, is gearing up for the biggest year of his young career as he prepares for his first full season in the IDEMITSU FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. Timothy steps into the highly competitive UB150 category, bringing with him the hunger, discipline, and determination of a rider ready to evolve. Timothy made his ARRC debut last year as a wildcard entry, showcasing strong potential in a field filled with experienced and aggressive riders. This season, he returns with a renewed purpose and a full-season opportunity to show what he can become. “For my first full season, I’m focusing on being consistent and learning something valuable every round. My main goal for 2026 is to improve race by race, keep building my pace, and fight for stronger finishes as the season progresses.” Strengthening Timothy’s development this year is his teammate, April King Mascardo, one of the Philippines’ most seasoned ARRC riders who has been competing since 2015. For a young rider stepping into Asia’s toughest underbone class, having a veteran on the same team makes a major difference. “Racing with someone like April King Mascardo helps me a lot. His experience gives me confidence. He shares insights about the bike, the race craft, and even how to stay calm under pressure. Having him around pushes me to prepare better and think like a complete rider.” Stepping into UB150 full-time also means stepping into a category known for its intense pack racing and strategic complexity. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, Timothy is using the challenge as fuel. “I handle pressure by staying focused on myself. Racing against experienced riders motivates me even more. Every lap with them teaches me something, and it pushes me to sharpen my skills and improve faster.” With only one ARRC round under his belt last year, Timothy is preparing for a season packed with unfamiliar circuits across Asia. But he is embracing the learning curve with full commitment. “I’ve been studying the tracks, improving my fitness, and preparing my mindset for every race weekend. I’m really excited about racing at Chang International Circuit. It’s fast, technical, and challenging, which makes it perfect for learning and improving.” In a category where margins are extremely tight, Timothy is clear about what helps him stand out: his mindset. “My strongest asset is my determination to improve. I may be one of the youngest and one of the newest on the grid, but I’m committed to learning quickly, staying competitive, and giving my best in every race.” Timothy carries the pride of the Filipino racing community, the support of a strong Yamaha squad, and the hunger of a rider with something to prove. ARRC 2026 will be his toughest test yet, but also his biggest opportunity.

From the race start, Malaysia’s Ahmad Afif Amran of Pitsbike Superfast JRT Racing Team rocketed to the front and controlled the early pace. However, as typical of the fiercely competitive UB150 class, positions behind him shuffled rapidly through the opening turns. But the Malaysian star quickly regrouped and stormed back to the front on Lap 3, rejoining the lead pack. CAN AFIF MAKE THE CUT?

Husni Zainul Fuadzy of ZIEAR LFN HP969 MCR RBT 34 claimed the championship title early and in style for the Underbone 150cc race category of IDEMITSU FIM Asia Road Racing Championship during Round 5 which leaves the 1st runner up a hot, second most sought after spot among the riders. But only one will make it and among the top three contenders, Fahmi Basam of YAMAHA LFN HP969 INDONESIA RACING TEAM, Ahmad Afif Amran of Pitsbike Superfast JRT Rapido Racing Team and Dimas Juli Atmoko of RACETECH SIXTY RACING, it is unclear who will most likely bag the limelight considering the close contention. Malaysian rider, Afif may not have taken the spotlight in the beginning of the season, more so with a double “DNF” between Round 2 and Round 3 however, the rider made headlines when he banked in 50 points on his home-ground circuit, instantly placing him among those in contention for the 1st runner up position. Currently sitting third in the overall standings with a total of 125 points, he has two situations to deal with – one, to steer closer towards the 1st runner up spot and another, to eliminate possibilities of dropping down a notch. Clearly, it would be a tough bet considering Fahmi’s and Dimas’ level of competencies which are equivalent to that of Afif’s. During Round 1, all three of them fought the raging fury on the final turn before wrapping up the weekend with a podium-finish each. This further accentuates the anticipation of rivalry, brewing silently before the final showdown and for those under the pressure, it would be a test that either breaks or makes them. The UB150 race category is not one to mess with especially with its unpredictable nature so, will this be a matter of luck of brilliance? Commenting on the upcoming race, Afif said, “I will use the experiences that I have gained to manage and overcome any kind of challenges, if I can and also to find the best possible machine setup for the race. Of course, I do understand the possibilities that are endless – the nature of the race itself being unpredictable. For now, I will not deny that my machine is in an optimised condition so there may not be major changes on that. The tricky bit is that, all teams have their strengths, with different capacities and they might just find the right setup for their machines at the very least expected time. So, I have to always be aware of the possible outcomes and keep focused on my goal.” “Personally, I don’t think I have much advantage on Chang circuit because all the riders have their own data and they are all aware of the layout and techniques that is most effective on the circuit ground. All I can do is my version of the best – use my very own insights and professional capacity to avoid errors and minimise risks at all cost. Frankly, the last two races were exceptional because my team has found the right setup for Sepang ground. But for Chang, I am confident that Fahmi and Dimas will put on their best show. They are strong contenders with great experience – brilliant in their strategies and manoeuvrings, so the final showdown is going to be a tough one. I just want to complete the race and collect as much points as I can for the championship. If this season doesn’t work for me, I will do better in the next – and that’s how I plan to end the season.”

On Lap 4, Peerapong Luiboonpeng of ONE FOR ALL surged into the lead, though the relentless pressure from the front group ensured the race remained wide open. The battle intensified further on Lap 5, with constant changes at the sharp end of the field. The decisive moment came on the final lap. As the group powered into the last corner, Fahmi Basam of YAMAHA LFN HP969 INDONESIA RACING TEAM looked poised for victory, sprinting ahead. However, Afif found an opening, unleashing a blistering drive to the line and snatching victory by just 0.006s with a winning time of 15’45.824s. Fahmi had to settle for second at 15’45.830s, while M. Syirat Sauki of 4S1M EVO YAMAHA Racing Team completed the podium at 15’45.977s. It was a double delight for Afif, who sealed both Race 1 and Race 2 wins in Sepang. Afif made a strong start, initially taking the lead, but the opening corners saw rapid position changes as the pack jostled for supremacy. By Lap 2, Afif regained the lead, closely shadowed by Indonesia’s Gupita Kresna Wardhana of ZIEAR LFN HP969 MCR RBT 34, Dimas Juli Atmoko of RACETECH SIXTY Racing, Peerapong Luiboonpeng of ONE FOR ALL, and April King Mascardo of UMA MMR YAMAHA PHILIPPINE RACING TEAM. Peerapong later slowed with technical issues and retired from the race. Lap 3 saw Afif drop to ninth in split seconds, with Wahyu Aji Trilaksana of RACETECH SIXTY Racing leading, before April made a bold move to take the front. On Lap 4, Danial Damar of YAMAHA LFN HP969 INDONESIA RACING TEAM surged ahead, while Afif recovered to second, maintaining relentless pressure. The tightly packed group continued to swap positions, with all riders separated by less than a second.By Lap 5, Adytya Fauzi of JPNW SND FACTORY RACING, who served penalty by starting from pit lane, charged up to second position, setting the stage for an electrifying finale. On the final lap, Afif unleashed a masterful attack, accelerating past the group and creating an uncatchable 1.358s gap to claim the checkered flag in 15’43.856s. Fahmi Basam of YAMAHA LFN HP969 INDONESIA RACING TEAM held on for second at 15’45.070s, while Husni Zainul Fuadzy of ZIEAR LFN HP969 MCR RBT 34 completed the podium in 15’45.075s. Ahmad Afif commented, “At the beginning of the lap, I tried to break away but wasn’t successful, so I had to stay in the front group first. On the last lap, I tried once again and bet on it. I pushed a bit too early at the first turn, usually riders push at Sector 3 or Sector 4. I tried to take that chance and make the most of it, and Alhamdulillah, I saw the gap growing and just maintained the speed until the finish line. I believe tomorrow’s race will be even tougher, so I need to plan a new strategy because today they might have figured out mine. Let’s see how tomorrow’s race will turn out. Thank you to the team, and not forgetting the crew who worked very hard this year. Alhamdulillah, in this round we managed to be on the podium.” TOP 5 FASTEST – RACE 1
