The decisive moment came on the final lap when Hiroki unleashed a blistering pace, holding off relentless pressure from his rivals. The Japanese rider crossed the finish line in 14’23.119s, just 0.060s clear of Luis Miguel in second place at 14’23.179s, while Sarthak Chavan secured third at 14’23.224s. The conditions were different compared to yesterday, where yesterday I was only fighting with Ramdan, but today I was battling with four riders right until the last turn. For me, this was a good advantage because I gained a lot of experience. This weekend I achieved pole position and two victories, which is very important for me. Now, I will stay focused on the final race in Thailand. Thank you very much to all the Japanese fans, Arigatou!” TOP 5 FASTEST – RACE 2

As the lights went out, Spain’s Luis Miguel launched strongly off the line, but his lead was short-lived as Hiroki Ono capitalised on a wide first turn to surge to the front. Malaysia’s Md Ramdan Rosli immediately gave chase in second, followed by India’s Sarthak Chavan in third, Luis dropping to fourth, and Chiranth Vishwanath of India in fifth. By Lap 2, the leading quintet of Hiroki, Luis, Chiranth, Ramdan, and Sarthak had carved out a two-second advantage from the chasing group. Malaysia’s Md Ramdan Rosli dominated the day, emerging as the fastest rider overall with a blistering 2’22.099s lap in Practice 2. His impressive pace set the benchmark for the weekend and gave him a solid foundation heading into tomorrow’s qualifying session. India’s Sarthak Chavan stayed hot on his heels, securing second in the combined practice results with 2’23.131s, while Japan’s Hiroki Ono, the reigning pace-setter from previous rounds, claimed third at 2’23.274s. I didn’t make any changes to my bike starting from Practice 1, so I just enjoyed the moment on track and tried to set a good lap time. In Practice 2, the track temperature was a bit higher compared to this morning, but I still kept improving my lap times. I will maintain this momentum for tomorrow’s Qualifying as well as Race 1. Of course, since this is a home-ground race, I will give 120% to try to win both races” TOP 5 FASTEST – PRACTICE (COMBINED)

BEING OPTIMISTIC – THE ONLY WAY FORWARD

Defending champion and currently chart topper, Hiroki Ono of Japan has relentlessly pursued his mission to rise as a championship for the second consecutive year TVS Asia One Make Championship. However, his genius manoeuvring moves were progressively hampered by the enhanced and robust performance of Sartak Chavan of India and Ramdan Rosli of Malaysia who have both delivered a competitive stride throughout the season. The Japanese currently leads with a total of 151 points, followed by the Indian at 148 points and the Malaysian at 146 points. With not much of a difference in points, the rivalry which is evidently stronger this season has brought the trio to a close contention for the championship title. Unlike last season where Hiroki drew a huge point gap by Round 5, claiming an early champion title, this season has definitely been a test to his dexterity, consistency and competency. Can Hiroki accelerate further away from round 5 onwards? Last season, Hiroki scored a 25-pointer in Race 1 at Sepang before crumbling to a defeat by Ramdan at the second spot after a steady streak of win throughout the season. This season, Hiroki made it to the podium once at the second spot in Race 1 at the very same circuit ground. Clearly, Hiroki’s confidence at Sepang may not be as appealing especially with Ramdan injecting intense pressure and now with an additional rival, Sartak inching closer. That raises the question as much as it exhilarates the race further, will Hiroki be able to maintain his position on the scoreboard? Hiroki commented, “This season has been very tough for me. We have struggled with the machine from the very beginning of the season but that improved at Round 3 in Japan. I can only say that I was unlucky in the races before that and also in Race 2 at Mandalika. Emotionally, it has been frustrating but this is racing. This bounds to happen.; it is inevitable. But I am taking the high road to stay strong mentally so that I can focus on completing the rest of the rounds successfully. It is going to be challenging especially with the difference in performance compared to last season but I am determined to see through the full season with 100% effort.” “The rivals are definitely very strong – Sartak and Ramdan. They for one, have very good understanding of the machine therefore they are able to optimise the machine performance. I believe that the remaining races would be quite interesting. There will surely be an edge in the competition, especially for Ramdan at Sepang. I am not very good on that circuit ground but I am not bad either. In Round 2, I was just unlucky so hopefully and being optimistic, this round would rub off some good luck for me. The championship battle will surely go on till the very last race. That is something different from last season where I was able to take the title earlier. Anyway, the goal is to bag consecutive championship title. So, let’s see.”

NATIONAL DAY GLORY FOR RAMDAN

Race 2 of Round 4 in the IDEMITSU FIM Asia Road Racing Championship under the TVS ASIA One Make Championship brought high drama and national pride at the Mandalika International Circuit, Indonesia, as Malaysia’s Md Ramdan Rosli stormed to victory on National Day. The race began with Ramdan making a clean start from the front, while Japan’s Hiroki Ono was caught in an early collision with Australia’s Hunter Corney. By the second lap, India’s Sarthak Chavan began mounting pressure on the Malaysian, and by lap 3, he slotted himself into second place, relentlessly shadowing the leader. Indonesia’s Rendi and Spain’s Luis Miguel also joined the battle within the chasing group. The defining moment arrived on lap 4 when Sarthak made a bold move to overtake Ramdan. TAPPING INTO FAMILIARITY

It was not a surprise when Hiroki Ono of Japan bagged a double-victory on home-soil in the recent TVS Asia One Make Championship races and it is definitely not new that he still graces the top spot. However, intriguing in the season’s updates are the competitive stride and the upgraded performances of duo Ramdan Rosli of Malaysia and Sartak Chavan of India who now share the same scores on the board. Which one of them would take lead in Round 4 of the IDEMITSU FIM Asia Road Racing Championship at Mandalika International Circuit? Last season, Hiroki lost his winning streak to Ramdan on the grounds of Mandalika when the Malaysian pulled a stunner in Race 2 to bag his first win for the season. Sartak on the other hand concluded the round third, twice after the massive tug of war among the trio. This season, while Hiroki maintains his superiority in the racing series with an advantage of 16 points, Ramdan and Sartak on the other hand have some scores to settle especially with the growing rivalry between them at 108 points each. Commenting on the race, Hiroki said, “Round 1 and Round 2 of this season was really but Round 3 on my home-ground was a fantastic race for me. It is definitely not an easy season but that is what that makes the race not just interesting but also a motivational factor for me. As long as my machine is in a good condition and with a perfect setup, I have the potential to win once again this season. So, I am actually not that worried. For Mandalika, I am gearing up as usual. The circuit layout comprises a long-straight so it’s one of the circuits that can easily pull in strong contention from the rivals. I will draw from my strengths however in braking to ensure that I am in a good space and position during the race. The ultimate goal is to make it championship, for two-consecutive years. To achieve that, I truly have to be focused, win and earn as many points as possible.” Ramdan said, “Last season was really wonderful for me and I have those memories, fresh in my mind. I will continue to do my best and try to emulate the strategies that worked best on the circuit ground, perhaps take another win along the way. The rivalry is as good as it gets which means, the challenges are going to be pretty much the same across the rounds. We have those among the front troop which are the ones to be mindful of as they know their strategies well. I usually don’t compare myself with the other riders but instead, compare my performance on a round-to-round basis to see where I can fix. I know that I have a good pace and I have always enjoyed riding on Mandalika ground. I also like the circuit layout as it is easy to tackle. My goal this season is surely to take the crowning victory but at the same time, it is about re-scaling the benchmarks and marking more wins.” Sartak on the other hand said, “This season comes with many experiences put into good use. I have implemented different riding styles and techniques which have been really effective especially when managing different circuit grounds with different kinds of challenges and layouts. Just 16 points to the leader and tied points for 2 or 3 position but I don’t want to put myself under any kind of pressure at the moment. I would like to think and work more in achieving the results rather than putting a fixed mark on a particular target. Mandalika is a great ground and my favourite part is the fast sectors of the track. The result in Thailand has really been the highlight this season for me and a motivational factor to push harder. So, I will go all out in the coming round and hope to score something more than the usual. Of course, the goal this season and every other season is to be a champion but again, it is not as easy as it sounds. So, keeping my fingers crossed!”
