FADLY TAKES FIRST WIN OF 2019 AT THE BEND

A year after taking his first AP250 podium at The Bend Motorsport Park in Australia, Indonesian rider Andy Muhammad Fadly once again made sweet memories when he notched his first AP250 win at the 4.95km circuit. Race 1 of the Asia Production 250cc was a 1-2 tango from the Manual Tech KYT Kawasaki Racing duo Fadly and Aiki Iyoshi. The two riders led the 9-lap race from start to finish until Fadly put the hammer down on the final lap to score his first win with 19’15.688s, 0.147s ahead of Aiki. Muklada Sarapuech was a big part of the battle for P1 but a mistake by the AP Honda Racing Thailand rider dropped her down to third with 19’15.920s. Tatchakorn Buasri and Rey Ratukore claimed the final two spots within the top-five. Piyawat Patoomyos, Irfan Ardiansyah, Muzakkir Mohamed and Nazirul Izzat completed the race in sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. In tenth position, Indian rider Sethu Rajiv did well by completing the race with 19’40.936s. Fadly has extended his lead at the top of the 250 championship ladder. He now leads with a total points haul of 65 points. Aiki Iyoshi has jumped up to second with 43 points and Muklada Sarapuech third with 41 points. Fadly, who now leads fifth placed Awhin Sanjaya by 36 points, will be riding with a 500rpm handicap in Race 2.

BROC CLAIMS FIRST ARRC POLE AT THE BEND

Australian rider Broc Parkes claimed his first ARRC pole in his homecoming race at The Bend Motorsport Park. Following a mediocre outing at the opening round in Sepang last month, Broc returned to the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship with a vengeance.   Broc has been quick to take control of the 4.95km The Bend Motorsport Park circuit and is looking good ahead of the races on pole position with 1’52.581s.   The Yamaha Racing Team Asean rider will line up alongside fellow Australian rider Bryan Staring. Bryan had been pulling a double shift at the Australian round this weekend and is one of the few riders who is racing in both the ASBK and the ARRC. The experienced Kawasaki rider is replacing injured championship leader Thitipong Warokorn. He posted 1’53.223s, the second fastest time in the ASB1000.   Meanwhile, Malaysian Zaqhwan Zaidi ran into trouble when his fastest lap was excluded from the final results for exceeding the track limits. This promoted Apiwat Wongthananon to third on the grid with 1’53.546s.   Yuki Ito will line up fourth on the grid while Zaqhwan dropped to the middle of the third row with 1’54.340s, ahead of compatriot Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman.   Ahmad Yudhistira brought his privateer Yamaha to seventh on the grid with 1’55.041s. Ratthapong Wilairot, Chaiwichit Nisakul and TJ Alberto made up the rest of the top-10.

IBRAHIM NORRODIN SETS NEW LAP RECORD AND TAKES POLE IN SUPERSPORTS 600

Young Ibrahim Norrodin has turned out to be a fantastic replacement for elder brother Adam Norrodin at Round 2 of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship in Australia this weekend. Racing in the SuperSports 600cc category for the first time, Ibrahim performed spectacularly when his best lap, 1’56.580s, not only netted him the pole position for the 600cc class but also set a new lap record at the 4.95km The Bend Motorsport Park circuit in South Australia.   The 19-year-old SIC Junior ZK Racing team rider upstaged championship leader Peerapong Boonlert who was second quickest with 1’56.904s. Ibrahim crashed out in the final minutes of the 600cc qualifier but was lucky that Peerapong had not had enough time to respond to the opportunity.   Fellow Malaysian Azroy Hakeem Anuar from the Musashi Boon Siew Honda Racing Team also made it to the front row when he posted third with 1’57.391s.

Fadly’s Japanese team mate, Aiki Iyoshi, kept the team momentum up when he clocked second fastest with 2’08.929s. The two Kawasaki riders were the only ones posting with 2’08s during the AP250 qualifier. They will be joined on front row by Muklada Sarapuech from the A.P Honda Racing Thailand outfit. BROC OFF TO ANOTHER SIZZLING START

Much as he did at the 2019 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship curtain raiser at Sepang, Yamaha Racing Team Asean’s Broc Parkes is off to yet another sizzling start in Round 2. The second leg of the Asian series is a homecoming race of sorts for the seasoned Australian rider. Though racing for the first time at The Bend Motorsports Park, Broc has been the quickest to get on pace. He set the benchmark for the ASB1000 with 1’53.855s.   Fellow Aussie rider Bryan Staring has shown himself to be a competitive replacement for championship leader Thitipong Warokorn. The Kawasaki rider clocked a very close second with 1’53.859s.   Malaysian rider Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi was third in the combined results with 1’54.315s followed by Ahmad Yudhistira fourth with 1’55.823s.   Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman is fighting off an injury this weekend. Azlan logged sixth fastest in the first day of practice with 1’56.072s.   Thai riders Apiwat Wongthananon, Ratthapong Wilairot and Chaiwichit Nisakul have placed themselves provisionally on Row 3 as they completed Day 1 in seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. PEERAPONG IN A CLASS OF HIS OWN

Yamaha Thailand Racing Team rider Peerapong Boonlert is clearly in a class of his own. Peerapong locked down the quickest time of the day in the SuperSports 600cc with 1’57.958s in his bid to extend his championship lead.   “It’s been a great first day back on track for me. I’m really happy with my results from the first two sessions. My condition is good, and my team has had my bike working perfectly. I hope we continue to stay in form as the weekend progresses,” said Peerapong.   Behind Peerapong, series newcomer Ibrahim Norrodin got his ARRC debut off to a great start when he clocked second fastest in class with 1’58.425s. Ibrahim is sitting in for elder brother Adam Norrodin.   Musashi Boon Siew Honda Racing team mates Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Helmi Azman logged 1’58.482s and 1’58.687s each to land on provisional P3 and P4 on the combined timesheets.   2018 Asia Production 250cc champion Rheza Danica Ahrens displayed a big improvement as he gets settled on the CBR600. Rheza posted the fifth fastest time of the day with 1’59.609s.   Andi Farid Izdihar, Javier Malloy, Kritchaporn Kaewsonthi, Passawit Thitivararak and Fakhrusy Syakirin Rostam made it into the top ten.   Finally, Underbone specialist Mohd Akid Aziz is still trying to adapt to the Yamaha R6. FADLY SETS THE EARLY PACE AT THE BEND

Championship leader Andy Muhammad Fadly has set the early pace for the Asia Production 250cc class as Round 2 of the 2019 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship commenced at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia.   The Manual Tech KYT Kawasaki Racing rider topped the timesheets in both free practice sessions. Fadly’s time of 2’07.557s has placed the Indonesian as the fastest man on the AP250 grid. However, Fadly’s time is still 0.2 seconds shy of breaking the 2018 lap record set by Mario Suryo Aji.   “Breaking Mario’s 2018 record was my target for today. So while I’m happy to be at the top of the timesheets, I’m just slightly disappointed that I have not been able to create a new laprecord here. That will be the target for tomorrow during the third practice and the qualifying,” said Fadly.   Fadly’s position on the grid looks strong, with second fastest Muklada Sarapuech a second adrift with 2’08.522s. Muklada’s AP Honda Racing Thailand team mates Tatchakorn Buasri and Piyawat Patoomyos clocked third and fourth fastest with 2’09.860s and 2’09.957s respectively.   From the first day of free practice, the tussle for domination in the AP250 class looks to be that of a straight-up battle between Manual Tech and AP Honda. Fadly’s Manual Tech team mate, Aiki Iyoshi rounded up the top five with 2’10.069s.   Yamaha Racing Indonesia’s Muhammad Faerozi Toreqottullah paced in at sixth fastest with 2’10.554s. Irfan Ardiansyah from the Astra Honda Racing Team was seventh with 2’10.703s.   The fastest Malaysian from the first day was Mohd Muzakkir Mohamed. Racing in the ONEXOX TKKR SAG Racing Team livery, Muzakkir was eighth fastest in the combined timesheets with 2’11.130s.   AHRT duo Lucky Hendriansya and Awhin Sanjaya who had a strong start at the season opener in Sepang, wrapped up Day 1 in the top 10 with 2’11.201s and 2’11.211s each.

FADLY’S SHOT AT THE AP250 TITLE

It may be early days yet in the 2019 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship, but Kawasaki rider Andy Muhammad Fadly is beginning to look dominant in the Asia Production 250cc class. After scoring a double podium at the season opener in Sepang, Fadly will lead the 25-rider AP250 grid into Round 2 at The Bend Motorsport Park in Australia this April 27 and 28. The Manual Tech KYT Kawasaki Racing rider holds a 10-point lead at the front of an all-Indonesian top-three. Two consecutive second placings at Round 1 has given Fadly a 40-points head start as he embarks on his fourth campaign in the AP250. Fadly is one of the pioneer riders in the ARRC intermediary class. He finished 15th overall when the class was first introduced in 2015, then spent a year in the 600cc in 2016. He returned to the class in 2017 and has been showing consistent growth since. He placed 12th and then jumped up the rankings to 5th overall last year. The Indonesian rider has a strong record at the The Bend Motorsport Park. He picked up a third and fifth place finish at the 4.95km circuit last year. The 19-year-old will be looking to extend his lead as he attempts to break the Astra Honda Racing Team’s domination in recent years.

PEERAPONG’S BEST CHANCE TO GET AHEAD

Round 2 of the 2019 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will be Peerapong Boonlert’s best chance to get ahead in the SuperSports 600cc title chase. The Yamaha Thailand Racing Team rider had had a dream start to his SuperSports 600cc debut with a double win at the Sepang International Circuit in Round 1. With 50 points in the bag as he heads to The Bend Motorsport Park for Round 2, Peerapong would be delighted to find that two of his closest competitors, Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin and Adam Norrodin will not be at the Australian round. Due to a schedule clash, the two Malaysians who are currently second and third respectively in the 600cc rankings, will be racing in the CEV instead. This scenario puts Honda riders Mohd Helmi Azman, Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Andi Farid Izdihar on the hot seat as they strategize to check Peerapong’s winning streak. Should Peerapong manage to increase his lead with more podium finishes at The Bend, he would have a big advantage at the subsequent Round 3 which will be held on his home track at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand.
