ACCESS PLUS RACING PARTNERS WITH OKADA MANILA

Access Plus Racing partners with Okada Manila to enter ASB1000 & SS600 in Asia Road Racing Championship Coming on the back of a successful debut season, Access Plus Racing confirms its return to the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) this 2020 with an expanded lineup that now includes entries in both ASB1000 and SS600. The Philippine-based team also welcomes Okada Manila, which was recently awarded the Forbes Travel Guide five star rating, as its new partner and will be running as Access Plus Racing-Okada Manila for the upcoming season. The team will again enter two Panigale V4Rs from Ducati Philippines in the ARRC’s top category – the Asia Super Bike 1000 (ASB1000). Headlining their lineup is two-time Philippine Superbike Novice and Intermediate Class Champion TJ Alberto. The 22-year-old is a seasoned rider with racing experience in the Italian Superbike Championship and World SBK Superstock 1000. As the lone Filipino on the ASB1000 grid, he competed in all seven ARRC rounds last year and consistently finished in the points with a best 6th place finish during the season. He will then be reunited with Federico Sandi who now comes back as a full-time entry in 2020. The Italian rider brought with him a wealth of experience during his two wildcard appearances last year, helping the team close the gap to the front runners. He also asserted the Panigale V4R as a strong title contender with his impressive performances at Sepang and Buriram where he fought for outright race wins. New for 2020 is the addition of a SuperSports 600 (SS600) entry with Troy Alberto onboard a Honda CBR600RR from Honda Philippines Inc. Like his older brother TJ, Troy is also a two-time Philippine Superbike Class Champion. And despite his young age at only 18 years old, he has raced in the FIM CEV European Talent Cup, Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, and most recently at the Honda Thailand Talent Cup where he finished on the podium on four occasions. Carved on 44 hectares of picturesque oceanfront, Okada Manila is a luxurious integrated casino resort and hotel complex located on the Entertainment City gaming strip in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Its partnership with Access Plus Racing will see Okada Manila’s branding and purple livery featured on the team’s ASB1000 and SS600 motorbikes, as well as all three riders’ suits throughout the ARRC’s 2020 season. The Asia Road Racing Championship’s upcoming race calendar consists of seven rounds with two races per event. Its curtain raiser will take place at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia this March, followed by races in Australia, Japan, China, and conclude in Thailand in November. Toti Alberto, Team Principal: “We’re thrilled to be back in the ARRC after a learning season last year. The whole team is looking forward to racing again with TJ and Federico in ASB1000 with the addition of Troy in SS600. We’d also like to welcome Okada Manila as our new partner for the upcoming season and race together under Access Plus Racing-Okada Manila.” Access Plus Racing-Okada Manila is sponsored by Okada Manila, Essenza, AELLA, Öhlins Philippines, and Dickies Philippines, with Ducati Philippines for the team’s entry in ASB1000 and Honda Philippines Inc. for SS600. MUKLADA CONTINUES TO BREAK GENDER BARRIERS

AP Honda Racing Thailand’s Muklada Sarapuech continues to break gender barriers in the male-dominated Asian motorsports arena when the team confirmed her full season SuperSports 600cc entry in the 2020 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship.   Although there had been a number of female riders entering as wildcards in the 600 class, their appearances had been few and far in between. Muklada is the first to commit to a full season.   The 27-year-old Thai rider has been defying gender norms since she first earned her racing stripes in the Asian series. In 2015, Muklada won the Asia Dream Cup title and became the first female rider to lift an ARRC crown.   Since that historic win, Muklada has gone from strength to strength. She finished 10th overall in her first year in the Asia Production 250cc class, moved up to seventh overall in 2018, and ended the 2019 season in fourth with six podium finishes and two wins.   Muklada will partner 24-year-old Passawit Thitivararak for the AP Honda Racing Thailand’s 600cc campaign. This will be Passawit’s third season in the class. He finished sixth overall in 2019.   Piyawat Patoomyos will lead the AP Honda Racing Thailand’s charge in the AP250 this season. Piyawat will be joined by rookie Kantapat Yakantai, a graduate from the Honda Thailand Talent Cup.

ZAQHWAN TAKES HONDA ASIA DREAM RACING WITH SHOWA TO THE PODIUM AT THE INAUGURAL SEPANG 8 HOURS

Malaysian rider Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi and his international team mates Somkiat Chantra and Andi Farid Izdihar clinched a first Endurance World Championship podium for team Honda Asia Dream Racing with SHOWA at the inaugural Sepang 8 Hours yesterday.   The Sepang International Circuit’s debut into the world of endurance racing was almost blighted by a torrential downpour during the daylight hours of the race. Zaqhwan and his team mates started the race from second on the grid, but was forced to rein in their enthusiasm as the unrelenting downpour forced a race start behind the safety car.   A few laps in, it was quickly determined that it was too unsafe to continue and the Sepang 8 Hours was suspended for five hours until the rain subsided enough to allow for safe racing.   The grid finally went out at the five hour mark with only three hours left on the clock. Zaqhwan was the first rider for team Honda Asia Dream Racing with SHOWA and consistently paced fourth in the leading group.   The team’s position improved when Somkiat Chantra took over the reins and managed to narrow the gap against the race leaders. Up in front, several crashes brought the Honda CBR1000 RR into podium position.   As the clock ticked down to the final hour of the day, Somkiat had managed to place second behind race leader YART Yamaha. One last pitstop brought Zaqhwan back on track. The ace Malaysian rider was able to keep their second position, half a lap behind Niccolo Canepa.   Team Honda Asia Dream Racing with SHOWA crossed the finish line in second place with 80 laps done in 05:51:53.459. Race winners YART Yamaha also completed 80 laps in 05:50:03.837.   “This is a very meaningful win for the team, and especially for myself and the Malaysian members of the Honda Asia Dream Racing with SHOWA crew. It’s an amazing feeling to take the podium on homeground, especially against a field of world-class riders. Kudos to our team members who had worked especially hard this weekend,” said Zaqhwan.
