A GRAND END FOR THE THAIS

The season opener of FIM Asia Road Racing Championship came to a victorious end for the Thais when Apiwath Wongthananon of YAMAHA Thailand Racing Team emerged fastest in the ASB1000 category. The mind-blowing session witnessed the performance of highly competitive riders who ramped up their efforts in the last race of the season to grab the winning title. Apiwath who took the second row on the grid picked up speed in the first three laps while competing with Haruki and Zaqhwan before taking the lead in lap four. The race saw a robust stride between the trio as they took turns to be at the top three position. In lap seven, Apiwath fell behind landing him in fifth position but quickly regained his pace to catch up with his top contenders. While Zaqhwan took the lead and Haruki followed close behind, Anupab glided into the top three position and Apiwat continued to strengthen his pace. By the twelfth lap, Apiwath managed to circle in to the top three position. The final lap saw a hard fight between the three big names and at the final turn, it was a neck-to-neck between Apiwath and Zaqhwan.  Towards the last seconds of the race, the vigorous Yamaha YZF-R1M rider beat Zaqhwan to the draw, clocking in at 21:02:530s. “I made a slip in the mid of the laps however I was quick to pick it up and re-strategise. I am very pleased to have won the race because this was an extremely tough race.” Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi of Honda Asia-Dream Racing with Showa fell to the second spot at the podium, logging in at 21:02:704s. Anupab Sarmoon who was trailing close behind the trio finished third at 21:04:032 presenting a double win for the YAMAHA Thailand Racing Team. DOUBLE JOY FOR THE MALAYSIANS IN SUPERSPORTS 600CC

Mohd Helmi Azman of Boon Siew HONDA Racing Team made a triumphant win when he emerged fastest in SS600 category, ahead by a blistering 4.9 seconds. The race flagged off to a highly competitive battle among riders of great calibre and while Helmi struggled to keep his pace up for the first five laps, Andi Farid Izdihar did not budge from the lead position. But luck was not on Andi’s side when he took a fall consequently opening the pathway for Helmi to take on the lead in full speed. The Honda CBR600RR R rider then fastened his pace while he peeled further ahead from the trail of riders. By the final lap, it was a confirmed win for Helmi. Clocking in at 19:59:528s the Malaysian rider fondly known as an Underbone rider claimed his first victory in the SS600 category. “I found the race very challenging, trailing Andi and keeping my pace up. However, when the opportunity came for me to take the lead, I maintained my speed to stay ahead. It was a better day for Andy Muhammad Fadly of Motul Sniper Manual Tech Racing Team when he emerged fastest in Race 2 of the competitive Asia Production 250cc category. Andy, who finished third at the podium in Race 1 battled through the 10-lap race with a better performance, displaying high-level skills while manoeuvring his machine to keep up his pace. Although Andy fell back in line in lap 8, he managed to make his way up to the second spot in lap 9, striding along the top three contenders. It was a heated battle in the final lap of who will take the win and between Andy and Rafid Topan, Andy who rode the Kawasaki Ninja 250 made the cut when he clocked in at 19:11:491s. “Today was a better day – the weather was good and I was able to take better charge of my machine.” “It would not deny that the race was highly competitive. VICTORY FOR MALAYSIAN RIDER IN THE UB150

It’s a win for Malaysian rider Ahmad Afif Amran of Cardinals Racing Team at the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship when he emerged fastest in the Underbone 150cc category, Race 2. Afif who took the fourth position on the grid picked up his pace at the third lap, re-positioning himself second among the troupe of riders. It was a battle between Afif and the rider before him but at the fourth lap, Afif managed to stride ahead and take the lead.  Afif flaunted his skills when he raced out of the traps in lap five and sped ahead leaving a trail of riders chasing after him. He maintained his pace throughout the remaining laps and finished strong at 16:34:083s, almost 3 seconds ahead of the next rider in line. “The team has worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to fine tune the machine, to ensure we get the right timing. I am very happy with the result.” Taking the second place was Wahyu Aji Trilaksana of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team at 16:37:136s who came in third fastest in Race 1. It was a well-planned move by Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi of Honda Asia-Dream Racing with SHOWA when his blistering pace earned him the winner title for the ASB1000 category in the season opener at Chang International Circuit. The much-anticipated race kept everyone at the edge of their seats as Zaqhwan who rode on the Honda CBR1000 RR R showcased his flawless tactics, riding swiftly along the first seven laps before making a calculated move to the top two position.  Towards the end of the race, the heat was on between Zaqhwan and Haruki Noguchi, the poleman who maintained his position at top speed through 11 laps. It was a switch of back and forth between the two before Zaqhwan pulled off his manoeuvring skills at the last turn before speeding off to the winning mark at 21:04:947s. “It was a challenging ride today especially with the high temperature on the circuit. Andi Farid Izdihar of ASTRA HONDA Racing Team smashed the Race 1 of SuperSports 600cc at the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship when he emerged first in what was a battle among Asia’s best. Getting off to a flying start from a pole position, Andi laboured through the first few laps at top speed, maintaining his rank at the top two spots. Working up their speed close behind Andi were duo, Nakarin Atiratphuvapat and Mohd Helmi Azman. By midpoint, it was a neck-to-neck battle between the trio. Towards the last few laps, Nakarin pulled through ahead of Andi and took the lead while Andi dropped to the second-best spot. But for Andi, the game was still on and when Nakarin took a fall at theinfamous corner of the last turn, Andi went all out to take the first spot, clocking in at 20:02:754s. “The weather was scorching hot which made it difficult to manage the tires and the pace. It was a triumph after a two-year hiatus for ASTRA HONDA Racing Team at the Race 1 of FIM Asia Road Racing Round 1 when Rheza Danica Ahrens took the first spot at the podium. Rheza who took the fourth position at the Grid was pushed back, behind the top five riders in the first lap but managed to make his way back into the top three position in lap two.  Throughout the 10-lap race, Rheza managed his strategies well, striding in and out of the top 3 position before he fell one step behind in the seventh lap. However, in lap eight, Rheza upped his speed and emerged strong to take lead ahead of the troupe.  The nail-biting moment took place when Rheza battled with his biggest contenders Piyawat Patoomyos and Andy Muhammad Fadly at the final lap. The trio took speed at the final turn before Rheza glided first at 19:03:774s. “It was a great feeling to have achieved the top spot at the podium in the season opener. The season opener of FIM Asia Road Racing Championship celebrates its first winner for the Round 1 of the Underbone 150cc category when Mohd Izzat Zaidi Mohd Salehan of Pitsbike JRT OneWay smashed in at 16:43:348s in Race 1. Izzat, the Malaysian rider who took the second row from the Superpole after coming in fourth at the challenge struggled to find his pace in the beginning. Striding alongside a stretch of riders, Izzat who rode the Yamaha Y15 ZR machine picked up his speed towards the remaining 3 laps. Izzat broke into the top three troupe by the seventh lap, taking the second spot before strengthening his strategy to finish ahead by 0.240s. “It was a challenge coming back to the Asian circuit after a two-year break. Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi of Honda Asia-Dream Racing with SHOWA took the fastest position in the final practice of the day when he logged in at 1:35:894s. The Malaysian rider who has been checking in third in both practice 1 and 2 found his pace in the final session, beating his competitors to the draw before retiring for the day. “I feel good with the bike – a positive feeling indeed. The timing seems to have improved even without the use of the qualifying tires. I am confident that with the use of the qualifying tires, it would be better.” “We hope to make it at the pole position tomorrow and keeping our fingers crossed to achieve the best in the Race. Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin of SIC Racing took the lead in the SuperSport 600cc third practice when he finished his laps fastest at 1:39:428s. Ibrahim who ranked third in the first practice went into full form during the subsequent practices of the day to take down his counterpart by a gap of 0.122s at the final practice. “Today’s success is attributed to the change that we have made on the machine. Based on all our lap time, we have made the necessary changes to the setup to ensure that our ride is comfortable.” “My motorcycle is all geared up for the qualifying session and Race 1 tomorrow and I will definitely give my best shot to take the podium.” Andi Farid Izdihar of ASTRA HONDA Racing Team was not entirely defeated for the day when he clocked in second fastest at 1:39:550s.
