TOUGH FIGHT AHEAD

Racing Championship especially with its nature that comes with a certain degree of unpredictability. The scores are tight among the top five riders however Fahmi Basam of YAMAHA LFN HP969 INDONESIA Racing Team and Nzairul Izzat of UMA Racing YAMAHA Maju Motor Asia Team are more than prepared to raise the benchmark of competency in Round 5 which will be held at PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit this weekend. The rider from Indonesia may have scored a DNF in round three and may not have been consistent overall, but sitting at the third spot overall to-date is the confidence and assurance he needs to continue his endeavours towards the championship title. Fahmi may be new to the ARRC scene but the rider is definitely tuned towards success considering his two wins this season. Could he withhold the challenges ahead of him? It’s difficult to predict considering the nature of the race category that is highly competitive. Commenting on the race, Fahmi said, “Riding in the UB150, in ARRC has been an amazing experience for me. To me, the tight battle from the very beginning to the end that is unpredictable challenges me further to be on the podium. In Indonesia, I take part in the Mandalika Racing Series (MRS) which is also a similar race class. That is where I picked up on my talent and experience. For the upcoming race in Sepang, it would be my first time. For now, I learn about the circuit only through videos. Once I am at the circuit, that’s when the real work begins. In the meantime, I prepare as much as I can physically and mentally. My team also is working hard to get the machine done up but of course, the setup can only be done during the FP sessions. So, let’s see how it goes. My goal is to be the champion this season. Keeping my fingers crossed.” Malaysian rider, Nazirul on the other hand had an unfortunate experience in Round 4 which resulted in a double DNS. The defending champion who led the troop and guarded his position in the last three rounds succumbed to fourth spot overall after missing out valuable points that could have possibly retained his position on top. It is not too late though for Nazirul who will be back for the coming round to fight for what he has worked hard for. Throughout the season, Nazirul finished podium thrice. Could he take his first win for the season at his home-ground? Commenting on the race, Nazirul said, “I don’t want to pressure myself too much with the championship title. All I know is that I will do my best in every race. To me, everyone in the race category is a rival and everyone has their own strengths and limitations. The most important thing on my part is to ensure the strategies are in place and that the setup of the machine is excellent. There is no room for errors as it is a critical time for myself and my team. I believe that my machine is in a good condition but we will do more and improve further. Plus, it is our home-race and there is another team that is getting better race by race. So, there are no two-ways about it. It is all extra work and effort to make sure we thrive through. I have taken some time off to recover from my injury so I am geared up now and there is no excuse. The goal is to definitely make it back on top.”

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SCORE!

The Round 4 of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will once again adorn the circuit layout of PERTAMINA Mandalika International Circuit this weekend. The riders of the Underbone 150cc race category are ready to rev up to the storm of challenge and among them are Md Akid Aziz of PitsBike OneWay JRT Tech2 Racing Team and Adytya Fauzi of RACETECH SIXTY Racing Team who will be upping their games for a taste at the top. He may have been defeated with a “DNF” status in race one of the season opener but Akid is quickly making up for the loss and striking it up the ladder towards excellence. With only 14 points away from the leader, the sweet flavour of success is getting closer for the Malaysian born rider. The only question is, “Would he be able to repeat another victorious note in the coming rounds?” The UB150 race category is known for its unpredictability and landing on the podium is not as easy as it may seem. Nevertheless, Akid has showcased tremendous improvements this season in terms of dexterity and consistency when he barged towards the chequered flag twice to place himself on the podium.  Commenting on the race, Akid said “Half a season has been pretty impressive as we had a chance to fight competitively with the closest contenders. That is a great improvement on our part. The UB150 race category is not an easy one because every rider has a chance to get lucky. However, most important is being prepared with the right setup. The suspension is a crucial part and in the beginning of the season, it was a problem for us. However, in Round 3, Race 2, we managed to optimise it and that has contributed to our success. For the coming round, we haven’t found the right setup yet. Although we have improved a little bit compared to the other rounds, we are still struggling to fight among the front troop. Therefore, we need to keep working on the machine and I have to keep pushing to do my best. For the next round, the aim is to find a better position during the race and fight for the championship title. The Mandalika circuit is quite interesting however, the last sector can be challenging. We can’t predict anything as yet but certainly there will be better advantage if the machine is in a better condition. My goal is to score the champion title this season and while I know it is hard, it is not impossible!” Adytya on the other hand faced some rough challenges of his own, one that of being a first-timer for a full-season and the other is the unforeseen circumstances that limits the performances. While Adytya may be new in the ARRC scene, he is definitely not new to the experience aboard the underbone machine. Adytya has garnered vast experience from other national championships and his participation on the Asian motorcycle racing championship is a matter of adapting and learning the behaviour of other riders. The Indonesian who has teamed up with a seasoned pro definitely has his advantages however the disadvantages that are inevitable is something that he has to tackle immediately if he aims to maintain his position at the top three spot.  Commenting on the race, Adytya said, “This season is my first, participating in a full-season and it has been quite different for me to be honest. Riding alongside highly robust riders has given me quite an insight as to how the race category functions. Each rider come with their own strengths and tackling that, to be better than them, it requires great focus and proper strategizing. I am quite lucky and glad to partner with Wahyu Aji who has been in the racing scene for a long time. He has heaps of experience and that has been extremely helpful especially in navigating through the rough and tough riders as well as learning the circuit grounds quickly. He has also taught me moves in overtaking, getting the best lap time in the qualifying session and making bold moves during the race. The team and mechanics have been working very hard to optimise the machine’s performances with the evaluation from each session up to the race so that we can obtain the best results. Racing in Mandalika has a big impact for me so, I will go all out for my country, the team and myself. I will never let my first year in ARRC go to waste. I will do my best and take this opportunity to learn and score as many points as possible.”

JUGGLING IS FUN

The Underbone 150cc race category of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship has its way of enticing the crowd with its performances but what catches the eye is the rider’s brilliant moves in striking while the iron is hot. Wahyu Aji Trilaksana of RACETECH SIXTY Racing Team knows the tricks of the trades all too well and eyes on the prize, he is determined to make the most of Round 2 at Zhuhai International Circuit this weekend. Last year may not have been all sunshiny for the Indonesian rider who has been in the game for a while now especially with the multiple DNF status and the load of running his very own racing team. Nevertheless, the former 2022 Champion is a strong character who seems to not have been deterred by circumstances instead rather be challenged to move forward with his game plan. This season, he has not only added an extra member in his team but has also showcased a well-done performance in Round 1, taking a stance one step below the defending champion in the overall chart. It is too early to say though especially in the UB150 race category which is deemed a race category that presents every rider with the opportunity to win. Having said that, it is also a game which requires superb concentration level and quick-thinking in bagging chances. But for Wahyu Aji, “I feel a lot more confident this season. My team and I had good, positive start this season and that has definitely been a great boost for all of us. Right now, we are back in the game and it is all about making the finest cut.” “The machine is in a superb condition. Based on the data obtained last season, we were able to fine tune our machine to increase its performance and capacity. But it is an on-going process and the goal is to consistently and progressively increase the performances so that it is faster in each round. Having a teammate is equivalent to a positive growth. Adit is a strong rider and his opinions and feedback has been beneficial for us as a team. We are still working on some lap strategies though to get the best result. After all, two heads are better than one!” On his personal achievements, Wahyu Aji commented, “Juggling between being a rider and a team owner is quite fun. It is no pressure at all as I am quite focused with my goals, which is to win the race. Zhuhai circuit is one of my favourite racing grounds. With the performance of my machine at the moment, I am quite confident that I can win the race there. I am one of the riders with the most experience in the UB150 race category. I don’t think I have any weaknesses but more so, it’s the bad luck that has always disrupted the mission. My team and I have only one goal with the coming round which is to get onto the podium and take lead in the rider and team championship points.” Connect with Us! Latest news at asiaroadracing.com
