JUGGLING IS FUN

The Underbone 150cc race category of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship has its way of enticing the crowd with its performances but what catches the eye is the rider’s brilliant moves in striking while the iron is hot. Wahyu Aji Trilaksana of RACETECH SIXTY Racing Team knows the tricks of the trades all too well and eyes on the prize, he is determined to make the most of Round 2 at Zhuhai International Circuit this weekend. Last year may not have been all sunshiny for the Indonesian rider who has been in the game for a while now especially with the multiple DNF status and the load of running his very own racing team. Nevertheless, the former 2022 Champion is a strong character who seems to not have been deterred by circumstances instead rather be challenged to move forward with his game plan. This season, he has not only added an extra member in his team but has also showcased a well-done performance in Round 1, taking a stance one step below the defending champion in the overall chart. It is too early to say though especially in the UB150 race category which is deemed a race category that presents every rider with the opportunity to win. Having said that, it is also a game which requires superb concentration level and quick-thinking in bagging chances. But for Wahyu Aji, “I feel a lot more confident this season. My team and I had good, positive start this season and that has definitely been a great boost for all of us. Right now, we are back in the game and it is all about making the finest cut.” “The machine is in a superb condition. Based on the data obtained last season, we were able to fine tune our machine to increase its performance and capacity. But it is an on-going process and the goal is to consistently and progressively increase the performances so that it is faster in each round. Having a teammate is equivalent to a positive growth. Adit is a strong rider and his opinions and feedback has been beneficial for us as a team. We are still working on some lap strategies though to get the best result. After all, two heads are better than one!” On his personal achievements, Wahyu Aji commented, “Juggling between being a rider and a team owner is quite fun. It is no pressure at all as I am quite focused with my goals, which is to win the race. Zhuhai circuit is one of my favourite racing grounds. With the performance of my machine at the moment, I am quite confident that I can win the race there. I am one of the riders with the most experience in the UB150 race category. I don’t think I have any weaknesses but more so, it’s the bad luck that has always disrupted the mission. My team and I have only one goal with the coming round which is to get onto the podium and take lead in the rider and team championship points.” Connect with Us! Latest news at asiaroadracing.com

UNPREDICTABILITY, BEAUTY OF UB150

The Underbone 150cc race category is about to heat up the asphalt of Chang International Circuit once again this weekend in the season opener of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. The best of Asian are geared up once again for a wild ride in a bid to supersede the challenges that awaits them. The Chang circuit may not have been very friendly to Md Nazirul Izzat Bahauddin of UMA Racing YAMAHA Maju Motor Asia Team who seemed to have struggled in the season opener and finale last season. However, the defending champion seemed to have warmed up on other circuit grounds where he swiped five podiums including three celebratory victories throughout the season, instantly placing him on top of the charts. Needless to say, that was one heck of a trick up the sleeve that made his presence in the race category noteworthy. Having said that though, Nazirul definitely has certain limitations which requires more attention, in addition to the underbone race category being highly competitive. Nevertheless, his performances and experiences add on to his advantage and this season, it is all about perfecting his flaws. Commenting on the season, Nazirul said, “It is not easy to be the defending champion, frankly speaking. Therefore, more than thinking about defending the championship, I am more focused towards the machine and the race. If you ask me, there is not much difference in the competition last season because everyone is of the same level of competence. What is more important would be having the right strategies in mind, working towards it and to making sure that I do better than before. Of course, I would not say that my strategies will work out 100% but I will try my best. We can’t say much about the settings or the changes to the machine as we still have to do testing at Chang circuit this week. Only once we have identified that we will have better clarity. Last season, I did not do very much at Chang circuit so I would like to make sure that this time around, I would have a better chance at the podium there. My goal is to of course to make it to the podium and bag the championship once again however, it is not just dexterity but also luck at the end of the day. So, keeping my fingers crossed!” 2nd runner up, Murobbil Vittoni of LFN H. Putra 969 Indonesia Racing Team was equally striking as he went on to take the podium thrice throughout the season including one win. It was a tough fight for Murobbil considering the troop of highly energised riders grabbing their chances where possible while racing towards one goal however, in the midst of the chaos, he made a sweet deal for himself at the finale. Teaming up with him this season are Fahmi Basam who made it at the thirteenth spot last year and Felix Putra Mulya who together will work towards raising the standards of the team. Murobbil said, “For this season, by God’s grace, I will try my best to fight from the front troop and hopefully make it to the top spot on the podium. Over last season, I have learnt that I have to maintain my speed and momentum among the front troop as it would provide a better space for me to move ahead at the right time. In my opinion, the Chang circuit is one of the best and most riders are quite well-versed with the layout. My personal favourite would be turn 9 and although rivalry is at its peak there, it helps me make the move I need to get ahead. The final turn is usually the toughest and this is where I have to work on a strategy to enhance my riding techniques there. Last season, I was quite optimistic with my performances as I have put in a lot of hard work. I work through my limitations and mistakes round by round. The team has been very helpful and has supported me throughout. We work in a positive manner and cooperate in the best way we could. To me, everyone in UB150 is a threat to me as they are all equal in terms of competency however my target for Round 1 is to maximise my capacities and try my best to collect points.” Gupita Kresna Wardhana of 4S1M EVO YAMAHA Racing Team was close to making it in the top three list last season unfortunately, it was not his moment to celebrate. He raced to the chequered flag third, three times last season, a triple-ripple that landed him fourth in the overall spot. The Indonesian rider has certainly spared himself some justice after the long-exhausting season however, the ride has not ended yet for him. Another season of play is about the begin and as much as Gupita flexes his muscles this time around, the underbone race category is at the end of the day a game of mastery and fortune. Gupita said, “Last season was a tough one for me even more so the last round where I had to fight the battle on my own without a teammate. This season, I am much more prepared mentally and I plan to improve further by refining my race strategies. I also need to be more focused and adapt quickly to this year’s race machine. I enjoy racing at Chang circuit. The advantage would probably be familiarity of the turns which I quite am at Chang. The disadvantage would probably the same as the other riders, what I know, they may not and vice versa. So, it is hard to tell. Everyone performed very well last season and I am pretty sure that this year will be another competitive one. Our technical team has been continuously researching and developing the machine especially off-season and with the new engine, I hope that it would benefit me in terms of the forms and functions of the machine. AWESOME FINISH FOR 1st RUNNER UP

As usual, the Underbone 150cc has always been a captivating scene with riders taking lead one moment and swallowed up by the troop the next. One who broke free from the force behind was Md Shafiq Rasol of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team who dashed towards the finish line first to claim victory in Race 2, Round 6 of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship that was held at Chang International Circuit. The pattern has been the same in the UB150 with riders thronging to lead the pack. Among the twenty- four riders, a handful of them appeared strongly at the lead position throughout the 8-lap race. Although the battle intensified on the last lap, keeping ahead competitively were Murrobil Vittoni, Hafiza Rofa and Shafiq Rasol who made remarkable 1-2-3 claims on the podium respectively. The conclusion came with a twist. With Shafiq landing himself third, championship leader, Nazirul was made the Underbone 150cc Champion for Season 2023. Akid Aziz was seen quickly gliding ahead of the troop at turn one with Hafiza Rofa behind him. A few turns later, Haziq Fairues made it to P1 with Passkorn at P2. Akid however found his way back to P1 on lap 2. Champion of UB150, Nazirul who did not have anything to lose, did not take the race lightly and went on to showcase his dexterity among the top five riders. The battle was more evident for the 1st Runner Up position between Shafiq Rasol and Murrobil Vittoni with 2-point difference however, the duo was swallowed by the large troop of riders in the first few laps. By mid-race, Murobbil emerged in the top three positions together with Fazrul and Nazirul but Shafiq was missing in action and remained silent among the back troop. With two more laps to go, Haziq and Wahyu who have been fending their position well throughout the race showcased potential. But on the final lap, Shafiq Rasol emerged out of no where and positioned himself firmly at P2 and at the last turn, he fired his wheels up before racing towards the finish line at 16’32:489s, bagging a win and claiming the 1st Runner Up position. Commenting on the race, Shafiq said, “First of all, I want to say a big thank you to my entire team and family at home for their endless support. In the beginning, I tried to stay among the troop but mid- race, I was actually left out. Somehow, I found my way on the last lap and used that opportunity to pully myself back to the front. That worked out well for me, thankfully.” Taking second on the podium was Md Akid Aziz of CARDINALS FACTORY RACING TEAM ASIA at 16’32:678s. Wawan Wello of PitsBike JRT Tech 2 OneWay Racing Team made it third at 16’32:719s. Connect with Us! Latest news at asiaroadracing.com

MURROBIL CARVED VICTORY

It was yet another nail-biting scene with the Underbone 150cc race category at the Chang International Circuit. As the race got rough and tough with riders thronging for the best position, Murrobil Vittoni of LFN H. PUTRA 969 INDONESIA Racing Team made a stunning appearance towards the finish line to bag the win in Race 1, Round 6 of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. During the Super-Pole session this morning, Md Akid Aziz of CARDINALS FACTORY RACING TEAM ASIA made an impressive lap time at 2’03:141s consequently rewarding him with the pole position. Second on the grid was Wahyu Aji of RACETCH SIXTY Team with his fastest lap time at 2’03:770s followed by Murrobil Vittoni with his fastest lap time at 2’04:119s. When the race started, Akid was seen fleeing quickly ahead of the others to take the lead position followed by Murrobil however the positions changed very quickly into the lap. Akid however remained among the front troop alongside Wahyu Aji and Hafiza Rofa. The leading man in the overall standing, Nazirul kept it easy and avoided pressure. At the end of lap 2, Hafiza took lead with Murrobil close by and into the third lap, teammates, Haziq and Nazirul emerged ahead. The battle was a tough one but the riders in the front troop remained consistent. By mid-race, Syazras emerged ahead of the riders and went on with swift moves to maintain his position before April King took over. With three laps to go, the exchange of positions became rampant as the riders work their way to the front. On the final lap, Hafiza Rofa made it to the front but at the last turn, Murrobil went on to pressure him before gliding ahead of him at 16’30:237. Commenting on the race, Murrobil said, “I am truly thankful to God for the protection he gave me throughout the race today and also for giving me the opportunity to win. It was a lot of hardwork, not only from myself but also my team members. So, thank you to everyone. Md Hafiza Rofa of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team made it second at 16’30:360s. Md Shafiq Rasol who was in contention of the championship made it third at 16’30:573s. That made Nazirul Izzat Bahauddin of UMA Racing YAMAHA Maju Motor Asia the Champion of the Underbone 150cc Season 2023. Commenting on his success, Nazirul said “First of all, I thank God for the blessings. I thank my late dad who has always supported me. He is not here now but I am sure he will be very happy of my success today. I thank my mother and my family members who have always been my pillar. Thanks to my team for the wonderful work throughout the season. My machine had an issue at the last lap but thankfully, I was able to manage it well and make it champion today!” Connect with Us! FIRST MOVE FOR THE WEEKEND

It was “all-out” for the riders of the Underbone 150cc race category as they went on their final round for the season at the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. Md Shafiq Rasol of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team concluded the day as the fastest in the practice sessions, combined at Chang International Circuit. In FP1 earlier this morning, Hafiza Rofa of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team made his mark with his best lap time at 2’00:519s followed by April King of UMA Racing MMR YAMAHA Philippines at 2’00:724s and Akid Aziz of CARDINALS FACTORY RACING TEAM ARRC at 2’01:161s. In FP2, teammates, Shafiq Rasol and Hafiza Rofa took the top two fastest spots in the chart with their best lap time at 2’00:098s and 2’00:665s respectively. Nazirul Izzat of UMA Racing YAMAHA Maju Motor ASEAN made it third fastest at 2’00:061s. Shafiq who will be fighting for the championship title this weekend alongside Nazirul Izzat seemed to have come full prepared and went on with his best moves to familiarise the circuit grounds today. Shafiq definitely has what it takes to make it with flying colours, even more so with his win in Race 1 of the season opener at the very same circuit. He currently takes the second spot in the overall standings and is 44 points away from his contender. But again, anything is possible in the UB150 race category. Commenting on the earlier sessions, Shafiq said, “During FP1 earlier, the team and I were still looking out for the right setup and we managed to get an enhanced performance with some changes. Hence, the better lap time. For tomorrow’s qualifying session, I will continue to do better for sure. For the race, we do not have any team order or strategy in place. It is not going to be easy to get the championship title because of the point difference. I will try to do it but my goal is to maximise my points in whichever way possible. For me, I find the last corner tough. The space is quite limited around that area and I foresee a competitive battle there.” Taking the second fastest spot was his teammate Md Hafiza Rofa with his best lap time for the day at 2’00:519s. April King Mascardo took third fastest with his best lap time at 2’00:724s. Connect with Us! Latest news at asiaroadracing.com

ONE MORE TO GO!

From flag-off to the chequered flag, the Underbone 150cc race category is an action-filled race series that has never failed to leave the audience at the edge of their seats. What makes it even more exciting is the ability of its riders to make bold moves and strike at the right moment to free themselves of the mounting pressure trailing them. Among them, Nazirul Izzat of UMA Racing YAMAHA Maju Motor Asia Team and Shafiq Rasol of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team are two exemplary riders who have fought a good fight in breaking the barriers and will do it one more time in a bid to claim the Champion title in Round 6 of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship at Chang International Circuit this weekend. Both the Malaysian riders have been in their A-game throughout the season with Nazirul bagging a spot on the podium five times including three wins whereas Shafiq, four times including two wins. Not easy but they did it. The riders have showcased their capacities not only in the manoeuvring techniques but also in managing their strategies, on-the-go. The UB150 race category comes with its unique proposition where everyone is presented with the opportunity to win and this is where the riders’ quick act matters. It’s either make or break! Nazirul and Shafiq seemed to have discovered the winning tactic but who would rise above the challenge this time around? Nazirul commented, “At Chang circuit, I will do my best and fight to be ahead of the troop. At the same time, I also have to be really careful this time around. My goal is to get enough points in both races and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I would be able to make it champion this time around. I really like Chang circuit but I have not had the luck just yet to take a spot on the podium so far. What I have achieved though it the fastest lap time at the circuit. I am hoping though that this time around, I would be able to stand on the podium. Of course, I have some weakness in a number of turns and I think the toughest one would be the last corner because it is quite narrow and everyone will be rushing towards the finish line. So have to be a little careful over there. My machine however has been in an excellent condition throughout the season. I have been quite consistent from round 1 up until today. But from round 2 onwards, my luck has been really good and I managed to get onto the podium. The setup of the machine has really helped me in my achievements overall. As for the preparation for the coming round, I have been working out; jogging and gym. We also do some training at Sepang circuit and also at the go-kart track. The trainings are not too strenuous to avoid any injuries that would hamper our road towards the championship title. I am thankful for the good memories this season when I won and finished podium in the races. Of course, there has been some hard time too. More like a pressure especially in Zhuhai because there is a constant need to maintain the standings. To a point where I think my performances was impacted. The underbone race category is one of the most interesting one and it is unpredictable but I love it! Round 6, here I come!” Shafiq on the other hand said, “I personally think that Round 6 will be very competitive as it is the last round for the season. The Chang circuit is one that favour a lot because there are many rolling speed corners especially the last turn which is highly anticipated. I have to stay focused in both races and try my best to win it so that I can obtain maximum points of 25 each. Without that, the chances of me taking the championship title will be tough as there is a difference of 44 points between myself and my contender. I will go all out to try and make that happen. Throughout the season, the team has worked really hard in providing me with a well-set machine. That has gone a long way in helping me with my standings overall. I was DNF twice this season because I fell at Sepang once and another time in Japan. That has cost me the points in the race. This is the first time I am racing in the UB150 race category but I gained a lot of experience as a wildcard rider at Sepang in the last season. That has definitely helped me with my performances this year. As an underbone rider, I have to say that I have gained a lot of experiences especially riding alongside riders who are not just experts in their game but one of the best in Asia. For me, this has been one of my biggest moments therefore I will not take it lightly in the coming round.” Connect with Us! Latest news at asiaroadracing.com
